2019 in review
23 December 2019
Labrakita Marketing is now closed until January, and I am finished for the year (apart from the odd social media post) and I’ve been reflecting on what a rollercoaster year 2019 has been.
I started the year by moving into our beautiful new house in West Lothian, still in a job I had started three months previously (assuming that I would be there for at least three years).
I ended up quitting for the sake of my own sanity and setting up Labrakita Marketing. One of the best decisions of my life!
It has been hard work and I’ve had to be careful about the pennies while growing the business, but I have already got a very busy January with client meetings and work booked.
I couldn’t have done it on my own though. I have met a lot of great people up here who have been so friendly and given me so much support and advice but there are a few people I want to give a special shout out to for everything they have done for me:
- Erik Muggridge for being a rock and for all of his support (not to mention giving up his evenings, weekends and even the occasional lunch break to build my website).
- Chris Ford for being a sounding board and advice about whether I should go it alone or not.
- Sweeta Patel for advice, support and for creating fantastic branding for me and designing my website.
- Denise Strohsahl for responding to a totally out of the blue email from a stranger asking about what it is like working as a marketing consultant in Edinburgh and then continuing to support me.
- Ruby Sweeney for support, advice, work and for giving me lifts all over the place.
- Andrew Forsyth for giving me my first ever freelance paid job.
- Neil Gorman and Ian Pilbeam for recommending me (to the same client) and also to Neil for writing my first Google review.
- Stuart Aitken for giving me work AND referring his clients to me.
- Johann Goree and Rob Levick for letting me become the Group Leader for the 4Networking Edinburgh Lunch.
- And Business Gateway for all of their (free) support and training.
Thank you to everyone – have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
